Mark L. Oakes releases the video for ‘Shredded Jeans’

Mark L. Oakes has recently dropped the new video for his single ‘Shredded Jeans’ that is taken from his latest album, Call Me The Moon.

The Belgian singer-songwriter’s relaxed folky style is perfectly accompanied by the emotive black and white visuals of the video. We see Mark playing his guitar in baron, winter landscapes that evoke a sense of desolation and loneliness, yet this fits in with how Oakes describes his album as the ideal soundtrack for a ‘karmic road trip’.

Mainly tracked at Mark’s home studio in the heart of the Ardennes, the record has been finalised with the help of Londoner cellist Ben Trigg and mastered by Grammy award winner Gavin Lurssen in Los Angeles.

Another Christmas Cracker – ‘Father Christmas’by Jon McDevitt

This new Christmas sing-along by Jon McDevitt avoids the common approaches to the genre. Thoughtful lyrics by co-writer Dominic Hudson paint Father Christmas as a figure missing from Christmas, whilst allowing the listener to interpret it as to how or why. Musically, ‘Father Christmas’ is pretty easy listening. The seasonal single blends influences from The Smiths and Dexys Midnight Runners to form a tuneful jingle – perfect festive gold.  The video features a collage of McDevitt and his supporting band – Dave Coston, Anna Kenkins, Neill Tupman, Matt Francis,  Stuart Francis and Lucy Camsell.

From creating the theme tune to the Channel 5 series ‘A Different Life’ to selling 2000 unsigned albums with his original band Geist, McDevitt has a strong background in the music industry. We wish him the best of luck with the release contemporary festive jingle!

Dave Fidler ready to unveil ‘Easy Gone, Easy Come’ EP

we challenge you to watch his recent session for cult YouTube Channel ‘Ont’ Sofa’ without being supremely impressed:

With a live BBC Manchester session and a feature in national Acoustic Magazine already under his belt, Dave Fidler’s previous single ‘Taking Over’ has really started to make waves for the singer-songwriter. Easy Gone, Easy Come, is the title track from  the new EP which is set to retain Dave’s upward trajectory come June 1st.

Based in the North West, Dave Fidler is a supremely talented acoustic guitarist, whose folk style and intricate finger picking underneath a distinct vocal has the ability to warm and break your heart in equal measure. His songs spin tales we can all relate to, around themes of love, loss and birth – all themes shaped by Fidler’s own personal life over the last year or so.

Influenced by greats like Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, this is an artist with incredible potential with songs like EP track ‘Easy Gone, Easy Come’, which you can find here:

Produced by Sam Jones (Alex Turner, Corinne Bailey Rae) and John Bramwell of I Am Kloot, the EP is just the latest step in what is shaping up to be a very promising music career.

Music is clearly a true passion for the singer-songwriter, who also runs a music school and charity alongside touring. It’s all very impressive work, and with a barge tour of the UK in the works as well as a potential prisons tour at the end of the year, it’s clear to see that Dave is approaching things in a different way.

The past twelve months for Dave have been a whirlwind of recording sessions and great shows including Glastonbury Festival, Manchester’s Whisky Sessions festival and a forty date tour of the UK as main tour support to John Bramwell who describes Fidler as “absolutely brilliant”. He has also been featured several times by key tastemaker Tom Robinson of BBC Radio 6 Music.

Sandy Kilpatrick single ‘Your Love is a Weapon’ to be taken from album ‘The Shaman’s Call’

PRimage

Scottish singer-songwriter set to unveil new album on June 15th

An acoustic-folk singer-songwriter, Sandy Kilpatrick is now Portugal based having been born and raised in Scotland. His new album, ‘The Shaman’s Call’, is the latest stunning release in a career that has grown organically over time, with his sound echoing great songwriters as wide ranging as David Bowie and Damien Rice, while retaining his own unique take on the genre.

Those developing years have been spent surrounded by talents who have made it to the mainstream, such as close friend and New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham. Now Sandy Kilpatrick aims to follow in their footsteps.

Having lived in various parts of the UK before moving to Portugal to be with his family, Sandy Kilpatrick’s particular brand of accessible folk music has a well-travelled feel to it. Inspired by a wide ranging exploration of all of life’s experience as seen through Sandy Kilpatrick’s eyes as a writer, Sandy’s last album ‘Redemption Road’ was notable enough to gain the support of key BBC tastemakers Guy Garvey and Mark Radcliffe. One track was even used by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on his ‘Best Bits of 2013’ video.

‘The Shaman’s Call’ marks further progression for Sandy Kilpatrick as an artist, guided out of the gate by new single ‘Your Love Is a Weapon’, a song which focuses on the intimacy and solitude of the writer at work: https://soundcloud.com/sandykilpatrick/your-love-is-a-weapon

Like this track, the album as a whole is designed to feel raw, and not hidden behind the smoke and mirrors of big production. The lyrics are intimate and thoughtful, hitting many highs, lows and moments of heartfelt poignancy – many of which listeners will immediately relate to.

Ben Williams – “Who Do You Think You Are?”

Manchester based singer-songwriter who moulds the classic songwriting sound of Paul Simon with the laid back nature of Jack Johnson, Ben Williams is a difficult artist to pigeonhole and is all the better for it. His new self-produced album, ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, has been seven years in the making, as Williams – earning a living as an in-demand session guitarist – wrote his own songs in the spare time he had between playing and recording with other artists.

With a clear passion for music, he wrote around 60 songs over this period, of which the best 11 have been chosen to make up his debut album. Self-produced and featuring a selection of the finest musicians in Manchester, Williams has delivered a genuine gem of a debut. Often quirky, sometimes funny, and occasionally more reflective, the songs demonstrate a fantastic range of approaches and ideas.

Having started as a busker, Ben Williams’ rise to prominence in the music industry has been truly impressive. As a session guitarist he has supported a who’s who of British talent, including  Mick Hucknall, Lisa Stansfield, Will Young, Status Quo, Nile Rodgers and Chic, The Straits, M-People, Tim Minchin, Pink Martini.  Meanwhile, playing his own material he has shared a stage with Baskery, Kristyna Myles Jon Kenzie.

Grammy award winning producer Ken Nelson (Coldplay, Paulo Nutini), who knows a great musician when he sees one,  describes him as “an excellent guitarist and great to have around on a recording session”, while drummer and producer Steve White (Paul Weller, Style Council, Oasis) called him “great guitarist and top musician”. These are professionals who gained a position in the industry by being able to identify talent, and they see it in Ben Williams.

Having had a taste of success playing with other artists at South By South West festival in Texas as well as festivals in Italy, tours of France, and UK gigs at the Liverpool Echo arena, Indigo2 and Bridgewater Hall, Ben Williams is hungry to take his very own bit of the cherry.

And finally, if you were in any doubt as to how passionate Williams is about his songwriting, he also runs his own blog about songwriting –  http://www.songwriterstalkaboutsongwriting.com/. Having interviewed people like Dan Wilson (co-writer of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’), Ron Sexsmith, Chris Difford, Frank Turner and more, this is one songwriter who is keen to keep honing and learning his craft.

In the meantime, the new album drops on April 13th and is as impressive a debut as you’ll hear this year.
